These heavy duty extended rear shackles help provide increased suspension travel and ride comfort. The stock shackles are 4" long center-to-center. On a stock vehicle this does allow an extra 4" of droop when the shackle comes all the way forward as compared to a truck with a shackle flip (the shackle will not go past 45 degrees). Once you flip the shackle you have to find a way to regain that lost droop. By using longer shackles the springs can move MUCH more than the stock shackle could ever allow. If setup properly, with an 8" shackle you get 6" of forward shackle travel and 6" or rearward shackle travel. A true balanced suspension.
In a tension shackle setup (stock factory style) the benefits are even greater. Shaggy's has gotten MASSIVE improvements (up to 20" of rear travel with Superlift 5" rear springs). For this the 6" shackle is recommended to limit spring bind during droop.
Remember, you only gain or lose 1/2 the added length of the shackle. 4" of extra length is only a 2" drop/lift.
